Final CAS reflection

How did you make a difference to the communities ( local, college and global) and how did you change in yourself?

  • I feel as if the impact with both within the local and global, I was involved in both services, one being based in Indonesia working with those on remote islands to provide a sustainable and safe future, whilst the local service was located within the Tampines community and focused on the mental health of patients with PTSD through the medium of swimming. As well as this I feel as if the impact was also on me as an individual and a growing person, allowing me to experience things that were out of my comfort zone different.

  • Pick 3 key moments or turning points in the past 18 months, Consider why they were key- What were the obstacles you overcame, how did you achieve success?
  • 1. Project week – This was a time where I decided to split apart from my friends and instead base my group on interest, this, therefore, meant that I was with people who I did not know well or at all, however over time I came to realize that it was a good opportunity to meet new people and make the most out of it (useful life lesson)
  • 2. Swimming – This has been a large part of my life for a very long time, regardless of CAS I would have fulfilled the same program, however the reflection that CAS required allowed me to look back at all of the hard work and sacrifices that I have put into the sport. The sport has taught me self-management and most important discipline, not only in the pool but also out, this will carry on throughout my life and is a very special skill to develop.
  • 3. Swimming with Hougang care center – A chance for me to take my pre-existing skills and knowledge and apply it to a new group of people, this allowed me to display my leadership skills and take more initiative

  • Finally-how will you use the new skills, understanding, qualities and knowledge you gained in your future at University and beyond? How valuable were the lessons and why?
  • What difficulties did you face?
  • How did you overcome them?
  • What were you most proud of?
  • Is there anything that surprised you?
  • Give an example of experiential learning in some of the 7 learning outcomes.
  • Which learning outcome stood out? Why?
  • What did you learn from CAS as a whole experience? How was it beneficial?
  • If you had your time again in CAS, what would you change or do differently?
  • How will you use what you learned in the future?
