How are we defined?

Storytelling can be biased at times, however, the author behind the text is what shapes the message and ultimately a representation of the text. Regardless of the ethnic background or identity of the person, I believe that as humans with life experiences and influences we should be allowed to write texts/stories to share.

At times influences from the environment that we have grown up in or become immune to is more powerful than the expression of “I am from…”, this is due to the many emerging 3rd culture kids and changing norms within society today. Our nationality is purely just a label in some cases and does not fully consider the reasoning behind our formed values and beliefs. As a mixed-race kid growing up, I was seen as fully Asian in western countries but “white” in Asian countries, however over time I have come to realize that the racial categories are not what forms my identity.  …….
