Today we had a guest speaker called Matt Friedman from the Mekong Club come in to talk to us about Human Trafficking and slavery. I learnt that women in prostitution only make up 1/4 of the human trafficking cases around the world, and the rest of the 75% comes from forced labour. I personally found the stories he shared with us extremely sad, and I am in shock that humans are capable of doing such terrible things to one another. I think that it is really important to have activists like Matt coming to speak to us and inspire people to take action. He highlighted the difference between interest and action – this really stood out to me. We all need to find what we are passionate about and take the measures to actually have a valuable contribution to change someone’s lives rather than just sitting around and being worried.

I really like this, I think it was really smart to include the part about what the difference between interest and action. This stood out for me too. I also found it very eye-opening when he told us stories of what some women have gone through when they have been trafficked.
