“Without the group to verify it, knowledge is not possible”

(Read the instructions wrong, only chose one object)

Human beings are wired to have beliefs about varying factors in their lives, whether it be about the people they are surrounded by, how they expect that future events will turn out, or simply about themselves. Every person in the world has their own beliefs, once you are able to prove the belief, it becomes knowledge, yet before that, a belief is neither true nor false it is just one’s opinion. However, one person may have sufficient evidence to prove their belief, yet if people still don’t believe in it, it will not be considered factual. Evidence however true, has to have the support of trusted people, whether that be colleagues, professors, club members or others. Without that support from the group, fact becomes fiction.

The Rolex watch is an object which is known to be of high quality. Many are made of highly refined diamonds as well as silver, gold and platinum. One who owns this watch is immediately thought of to be of wealth as they are able to spend the excess money. The Rolex watch is not an object of convenience for telling time which was the original purpose of the product, and neither is it only a piece of jewelry. The watch is a symbol of status, a symbol one uses to show off their success and a way to prove their worth. It echoes the words “I have money” without actually saying that you have money. And subconsciously it is a metaphor that one who wears it is ‘better’ than one who doesn’t. The watch itself is just a mechanical object with additional carbon rocks and various pieces of metal on it, but the media has claimed that it has worth, therefore, its wearer too, has worth. The wearer may have the money to buy it, or it may have been an impulse buy after a casino win or they may even have stolen it yet, the lower class group will still admire the wearer, envying them and treating them with respect due to their believed success. The higher class group will treat them as equals, possibly feeling in competition with them to compare their success with their own. The watch gains respect because it is known to be expensive.

The world consists of hundreds maybe thousands of watch brands, a smaller business may produce watches of just as high quality and an equal amount of diamonds but without the word of mouth to confirm that the brand has status, it simply doesn’t. The group, whether high class or low class tell each other that it is of high quality and worth, therefore, proving it to be true. It is known, simply because it is known. Simply because the group confirmed that the rolex watch is a symbol of status, it turns into knowledge.

Interesting example, and it works well in confirming the statement.
I know I don’t like red chillies, do I need someone else to confirm this?
