My Initial Thoughts about Creativity Activity and Service (CAS)

Creativity Activity Service (CAS)

Starting IB with an introduction to Creativity Activity and Service (CAS) can seem a little overwhelming; however, I soon realised that these three strands of CAS are already such important aspects in my life since they’ve been integrated from the start. Because of this, I’m excited to see how CAS will enable me to not only further develop in the activities I’ve done for a majority of my school life, but also how it will encourage me to take new risks and push my limits.

For creativity, I will want to continue my Model United Nations (MUN) training and watch myself confront challenges such as chairing a High School MUN conference for the first time. Moreover, I’d like to continue with my professional piano training and do the Kahaani dance showcase next year. However, along with these new activities, I hope to audition for Culturama as well.

For Activity, I could use the two dance showcases (Kahaani and Culturama) which I previously talked about. Additionally, I could use tennis, as I’ve played for the school for many years now. For my projects, I want to challenge myself to participate in IFP (Initiative For Peace) as well was Kahaani and Culturama. But, the project I’m looking most forward to is Project Week.

For Service, I’m not entirely sure what specific service I want to do. I’m already part of a focus group (Sky School) but I’m still not entirely sure whether I will join a local or college service. However, I just know that I want my service to be an amalgamation of my interests and passions which can hopefully, help to achieve some goals and make a change to the extent to which it can.

I’m looking forward to starting my CAS journey!

Maths and Me

HL Mathematics

My name is Aarushi Rath and I have successfully completed my IGCSE CIM and Additional Mathematics qualifications. Mathematics is one of my favourite subjects and I’ve always been enthusiastic about it. Inevitably, I do feel a little tense about HL Maths; however, my excitement undoubtedly triumphs my anxiety as I’m eager to broaden my knowledge and take new risks, such as writing IAs.

Concerning the spectrum, I can’t say I’m on either side. Sometimes, I rather have someone teach it to me as it allows me to develop this additional complexity while assisting in making my understanding more sophisticated and accurate. However, I see great value in solving problems myself as it allows me to think about math through an unbiased perspective. Moreover, it allows me to solve problems not through memorised formulas, but rather through a more organic way. When I get stuck, I like to use different methods of solving so I can easily identify where I go wrong, breaking down/simplifying the problem also helps.

My biggest strengths are self-discipline and diligence, I feel that I’m aware of the amount of effort I need to put in to succeed and feel happy while remaining productive in the long-term. However, I want to focus on being a critical thinker as I am aware that problems and concepts will have an undertone of complexity and thus, I have to ensure I critically think through difficult problems so I can succeed in solving them while still obtaining sufficient learning.
