The Three Most Important Sustainable Development Goals

After listening to all of the presentations and finding out what specifically each SDG entails, as well as why each of my classmates thinks the goal they presented is the most important, I have decided that if the UN were to abandon all of the goals except three, those three should be no poverty, quality education, and gender equality. I think that no poverty and gender equality are very important because they have a very large number of ties to other goals and it would benefit many of them if there was a lot of focus put on these two. Also, there is an extreme loss of potential as a result of poverty. Just because a boy or girl was born into poverty, doesn’t mean they do not have the potential to perform well in school and move on to become a scientist or software developer. There needs to be more focus put on gender equality because there need to be more people working towards solutions for global issues such as finding sustainable energy sources and cures for diseases. Quality education is important because it would allow people to move out of poverty and if government-funded schools are built in impoverished areas, parents would be able to allocate more money to their needs such as quality food, water, and tools for hygiene, instead of paying for schools.
