Interim Reflective Conversation

I spent time researching distributed databases and learnt about their implementation and benefits. I learnt that query response times are a good performance indicator and decided to write a multi-threaded program to create new concurrent connections, send queries and measure the response times on both databases. One challenge I faced was my choice of Operating System: Linux on Virtual Machines (VM) or macOS on physical machines. Linux would be a better representation of real-world database use due to its popularity; however, Macbooks were readily available in school and would reduce the complexity of setting up Linux VMs and connecting them to the network. My supervisor and I decided to use VMs so that these results could be applied to real-world scenarios. One change I made to my research process was to use textbooks and academic research papers. My main sources were online articles. We decided that these resources would help me gain a deeper understanding of the topic.
