Being in nature is one of my great passions. Growing up in Taiwan, stunning mountains and rolling hills of forests were simply a half and hour trip away from the city. In Singapore, with a much more urban environment on a limited land space, untainted primary forest is much rarer. When I joined this service in Grade 9 simply out of a love for the natural environment, I did not know where it would take me. After being inspired to join Friends of Bukit Timah following a forest conservation workshop in Grade 9, I have been introduced to Joseph Koh, the chairman of WWF Singapore. Currently, I am in the process of organizing 11 UWC Rainforest Restoration members to participate in a rainforest weeding event run by NParks and Mr. Koh, to take place in late November in Rifle Range Nature Park. Far more than my other activities, I think this service has allowed me to appreciate the local outdoors and inspired a genuine connection with Singapore.
