In my service, we have been divided into multiple groups so that each group can work with a different member of the Apex Harmony Lodge. For the past few classes we have been having sessions with the elderly every alternate week, this is because every other week we were planning interactive presentations with several different games and kahoots of their interest.
After every session our group reflects on the lesson and informs the person in charge, Niki. For the past few sessions we have had interactive and fun sessions with the elderly. We had Uncle George, who is very interactive and communicates with us well. We played a kahoot on the history of Singapore, a kahoot on the Beatles, matching memory game and asked them interactive questions. So far we have been successful with the online sessions, however, we are considering getting the COVID test in order to go and visit them physically to make the sessions more efficient.
In the past few months I have learnt skills such as communication and perseverance, strength and growth, initiative and planning and collaborative skills. Groups have communicated well in order to produce the best and most efficient sessions with the elderly. We have planned each session ourselves as well has collaborated with eachother in order to divide the work between us equally. From the start of the service we have definitely grown a lot – our sessions are more productive and efficient now.
