Volleyball : Beyond Fixtures (middle)

Learning Objective 4 : Showing perseverance, resilience

Of the two seasons of volleyball, I have now reached the end of the first season meaning I’ve officially reached the halfway point. If I had to say so, I would say this is the stage that is the most frustrating, the stage in which I require the most perseverance and resilience. My plan to improve my serving and my hitting has made some slight progress, every training it is constantly on my mind. Time the approach better, aim towards that corner, flick my wrist down. Little reminders constantly running through my mind. While this may be useful in terms of ensuring that I keep my focus, it also means the feeling of exasperation and annoyance with myself is exemplified every time I am not able to fulfil every little reminder. I have to constantly remind myself to shake it off and that everyone has off days but it doesn’t mean it’s any less disappointing when it happens.

When looking at it from another hand, it makes it all the more rewarding every time I sense some form of improvement in what I do. Within this first season I managed to see a more steady improvement in my overall skill, and not just the occasional lucky hit either, but being able to be consistent in my slight improvement.

With another half left, I’m looking forward to further increasing my skill and let’s hope that I come out of these two seasons having reached my goal and having learnt something new
