BASIC THOUGHTS (rewrite later)
Jesus Hopped the A Train:
- a comedic tragedy
- characters are upfront – they say what they mean, vulgar, personal
- immersion of audience: audience would understand more if they were experiencing the play rather than witnessing it
- use of FOILS – each character exposes their foil to a deeper level; their character, underlying thoughts/ feelings, etc.
The Importance of Being EarnestL
- a trivial comedy
- each character says something different to what they actually mean: there’s a lot of play on language and representation
- the play itself is quite static: the characters barely move, which means audiences need to be roped in
- use of pairs – each character has a person they are ‘paired’ with: represents the stupidity of the marriage and the typical constructs of society.
