Activity: CultuRama China #1

The Learning Outcomes (LO’s) that I hope to achieve by participating in this activity are collaborative skills and commitment & perseverance (LO4 and LO5). Ensuring my collaborative skills are up to par is essential for the overall success of the dance, as I will be on stage with over a dozen other people. I have previously done CultuRama, and it wasn’t too difficult to commit to. However, I now have greater academic commitments to meet so I want to make it a goal to commit.

This will be the third and final year that I have participated in CultuRama, so I am really excited to make this one great. The CultuRama theme this year was to celebrate our school’s 50 years, and to show unity amongst and within cultures. I was debating which country’s dance to audition for – Eswatini, Japan, China. I ultimately decided to audition for China’s dance as I felt it was both the most aesthetically pleasing to me, and also as I study Chinese as a second language, and thought it was a unique way to further immersive myself in the culture.

As part of committing to a CultuRama dance, we have to show up to weekly rehearsal sessions alongside any additional sessions that are required/that the dance leaders organize. This will be a way in which I can demonstrate and improve upon my commitment and perseverance. Through other experiences with CultuRama, I have begun to find it easier and easier to collaborate well with many new people. However, I definitely still have plenty of room to improve. Hopefully, it will be a challenge that I can rise up to and learn from.
