Investigation

During the investigation process, our group came up with 3 thorough outlines for potential plans for our Project Week. We initially planned for trekking in Lombok, Indonesia, Volunteering in an orphanage in Rawa, Malaysia and Diving in Bali, Indonesia.

Preparation

In order to prepare, we had to begin planning the service and activities aspects of the trip. In order to do this, we worked with ‘Bali Diversity’ to do our service which was ocean cleanup and the activity which was diving. Since the diving course was 4 days and we required 5 days of activity, the fifth day was planned for trekking in Ubud, a nearby town. Our main mode of transport would have been cycling or the mini-bus accommodation through Bali Diversity. Once we e-mailed and coordinated the dates and bookings with Bali Diversity, we were able to start searching for flights and reserve an 8-hour first-aid session to get certified before our trip.

Action

In response to the COVID-19 situation, we were unable to follow through with our plans with the trip. Due to this, we had to inform our dive centre of our cancellation and hopes to post-pone the trip in the near future.

Reflection

Due to the cancellation of the trip, we were able to reflect on the planning process and the skills involved in collaborating as a group and communicating with the service and activities partner. Unfortunately, we were not able to reflect on the outcome of the trip. Regardless of this, we were still able to work as a group and overcome challenges in terms of conflict when decision-making, as well as responding to circumstances in which we didn’t get replies from certain people or organisations. In such situations, we were able to work together to come up with back-up plans and find solutions or alternatives in an attempt to still plan the best possible Project Week for ourselves.

Demonstration

As the trip was cancelled, we were unable to demonstrate any newly developed skills physically, although, we were able to demonstrate our learning and development of skills such as collaboration and communication through the planning process.
