I wanted to do Service and Creativity as part of my Project Week, so I went along with a couple of my friends who wanted to do this. Initially we considered several locations, ranging from Hong Kong and Jakarta, before settling on the city of Taipei, Taiwan.
We chose Taipei for our trip proposal as we wanted to practice our Mandarin in a more intensive setting compared to Singapore. We also found out that a service group at the school, Green Fingers, had ties with a recycling center in Taipei (Nei Hu), so we were encouraged to look into doing some service with this group. During this stage of this planning process, I’ve realized the importance of going to do service at a place where our visit would not be seen as ‘voluntourism’ and how the school encourages that.
