Today, Hanna Alkaf was talking about what techniques she uses when she writes a book and how to apply this when we are story writing. First, you need the skeleton, which is the structure or the framework that gives your story shape. You have to think about: Turning points and climaxes, Conflicts, such as setbacks and obstacles, The resolution or the end of the story, and an Inciting incident.
Next, you would need the ‘bolt of lightning’ which is the elements that bring your stories to life; Details, Dialogue, Description, and emotion. In order to have this, it must help the reader understand the relationship between characters, it must move the story forward, and it must reveal relevant information about the character.
Description is the next step to making a meaningful story. In order to have the description perfectly, it must have: Similies and metaphors, It must engage your reader’s senses, and finally, it must use your own words to paint a picture in your reader’s head
Finally, in order to write a good story, it has to have emotion involved. To have emotion you have to check if you: decided how you want your readers to feel when they are reading your piece, you have to ask yourself “how are my characters reacting with each other?”, you have to have different variations in your sentence lengths, so it can speed it up or slow it down, You need to show, not tell, so that it is much more interesting or else you read will just be bored and finally, you need to dig deep. Writing is a transfer of emotion from your head to the paper, the readers won’t feel an emotion if you don’t feel it too.
