The interview was conducted with Miss Phisuthiporn Charoenchai who is a professional nurse at the Public Health Office of Nakhon Phanom province. However the information is also based on Mr. Chucheep Maneepunwho is the provincial public health specialist.
This is a virtual interview which was conducted through the application called “Line” with the recording of the entire interview.
I chose to interview this organization because first of all, the organization is the main institution of the province for the prevention and suppression of drugs for safety in life and property. Moreover, they are working together with the second organization that I will be doing the engagement activity with. Therefore, it is very interesting to hear some interesting information from both them and how they manage to solve the drug issues among youths. It is also very good to focus on the political issue and there is a very good link to it.
According to my personal motivations towards this engagement that I have been interested in doing something that could possibly help in developing education in my country, Thailand. I, however, was hesitating if drug use issue would be related to what I was thinking of doing about education. Then, the drug use issue appeared in my mind so I thought that would be related to what I am interested in doing about education. Since the drug problem that I am looking at is the problem happening focussing among young people at the ages around 11-24 (Public Health Office of Nakhon Phanom province).
From having the interview with the organization, I have learned about the impacts of inequality that still exists and can lead young people to be abused by drugs use. Miss Phisuthiporn Charoenchai has mentioned a lot about how children around these ages are not ready to be responsible to take care of their family’s financial problems. Most of the children who are abused by drug use are those whose parents left the house to work in other cities to find money and take care of the family. Most of the young people do not get to finish school until the end because their family is not able to support their education. When I heard that from the interview, I was actually thinking that there is something that needs to be done. Even though I cannot do much to improve the whole educational system, I would be grateful if at least I get to learn to understand the problem and do something in the future when I have a chance.
These are the photos of the activities that the organization provide for the young people who are in the treatment process.
