Purple Hair

Why did I dye my hair?

Our appearances make the first impression.  They are extensions of ourselves.

Despite most people’s denial, our appearances are the accumulations of millions of choices we make every day.

Dyeing my hair is not much different than wearing makeup or cross-dressing.  I despise conforming to the majority, to exist merely as a duplication of hundreds of others.  I want to stand out.  To be me.

What better way than to dye my hair?

Dyed hair is not a rebellious action.  It is not an indicator of an angsty teen going off track.  It is my way of representing myself.

Under the suffocating uniform, I feel as if I’m losing myself.  Blending in with hundreds of other blue-shirted teens.

My hair is a reflection of me.  My creativity.  My passion for anything weird and colorful and beautiful.  My desire to break free.
