Excruciating or Liberating?

The monochromatic color scheme instills a somber atmosphere whilst the clustered background mirrors the chaotic spillage of the subject’s mind.  The background illustrates the plethora of thoughts we are plagued with when we cease to assign them values – to control, to filter, to categorize them.

The incongruity between the smooth figure and the angular background accentuates the dispassionate facade that individuals often feel obligated to replicate, whilst the lack of details and definitive traits suggests the prevalence of this phenomena.  Furthermore, the vacant expression of the subject clashes with the supposedly excruciating action of stripping away the skin – presenting it as liberating rather than agonizing.

The patterned skin thus reflects the fluidity of human psyche and the ease to which we are reduced to faceless skeletons in the absence of our idiosyncrasies.
