LO3-Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

LO5-Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

During the past four weeks, me and my unified partner, Natalie, were working on the unified fitness for our buddy athlete, Joanne. This Unified Fitness plan was customized according to her endurance, strength, and balance skills. It is a plan to bring athletes & unified partners together to improve their health and fitness with physical activities. In the first session, we choose the activities that are both acceptable and challenging for her, which therefore we would have room for her to improve skills in the areas and maintaining a feasible plan. The plan has generally gone through a well-organized process but there were some challenges and threats that have made our plan difficult to practice. Our first “official” session should be conducted on 14th January, however, some technical issue such as internet connection has ceased us from being contacted with our athlete by zoom call. This issue was being unsolved when comes to the online sessions, which we have recognized as one of the biggest threats to our plan. Another issue we faced was that our athlete needed to be half an hour late to come to the session due to her work, which has made our planning session been shortened. Therefore, we could only do some of the planning activities with her so some of the processing data were unrecorded. To be able to respond to those quick changes during our session, we decided to select the activities that have most challenging for her and still pragmatic for her future fitness.

I am very glad to work with both my fitness partner and buddy athlete that we collaborated very well within those three sessions. During the sessions, my partner and I agreed on most of the decisions that we made together with. The cooperation between us and the athlete was mainly based on effective communication. We discussed with each other and as well as our athlete after we finished activity to get feedback on the practicality of it for the future and how the athlete felt about it. We were also taking turns to demonstrate the physical activities to the athlete so that both of us had an equal chance to have direct interactions with the athlete. While one person was doing the activity with the athlete, the other person was recording and encouraging our athlete to motivate both of them. We both found out that it was the best way for us to work on this unified fitness session. Furthermore, I might take this cooperation process as one of the strategies I can refer to for future collaboration with others if eligible.
