Should We Encourage AI to Immortalise Actors? Why or Why Not?

“In future, actors need not be creatures of flesh and blood, but could, like so many other things in an increasingly digitised world, exist as nothing more than long strings of 1s and 0s.”

Through the development of technology, AI can now take place of most of the jobs in the world. However, AI is controlled by a series of codes and data which human set into it. It cannot feel the emotions and love which are very abstract. This limits their abilities on creating. Actors need to be emotional. They need love, true feelings and natural responds to create the characters, in order to make people believe in these characters and be influenced or inspired by them. This is definitely not able for AI to do, unless it just copies the performance of previous actors and perform it again and again. In this situation, the audience will not be inspired by the characters, because they cannot feel the real emotions from the performance, but just a series of programmed repeated actions. Therefore, in my opinion, AI cannot immortalise actors, and we also shouldn’t encourage AI to do so. Similarly, some service also cannot be done by AI. For example, taking care of old people who have physical or mental issues, it needs love and warmth. Robots don’t know what love or warmth is, so the old people also will not feel these  when the robots are doing service for them. Therefore, in this way, human can do service better than AI.

  1. If I were answering the question you selected, one difference between your opinion and my opinion would probably be that we should not have AI to replace actors right now, but in the future it may be helpful and save a lot of money for the production of the movie so it is something useful to think about for the future.

The thing that makes the question you selected difficult to answer is because it is a highly controversial question, and it can have many different perspectives; it is hard to come to a real correct answer because it is a question based on opinion.

Your post now makes me wonder if we should be asking the following question; is AI taking over the human race?

  2. I found this post really interesting because I didn’t think about the fact that AI could be used to immortalise an actor but I liked how you really delved deeply into this topic. The difference in opinion for me would be that I would personally enjoy seeing actors portrayed through AI since we’ve never even meet them so it wouldn’t make much of a difference.
This is quite a tough topic to discuss because we’re still developing this technology and it’s not that easy to make judgement on this.
This makes me wonder if we could actually do this in the future.

  3. If I were answering the question you selected, one difference between your opinion and my opinion would probably be that you can program robots to do a lot more than humans, and thus we can program them to portray themselves feeling emotions.

The thing that makes the question you selected difficult to answer is the fact that we have not seen a robot act yet, thus we can not assume whether or not they would perform the way you predicted.

Your post now makes me wonder if we should be asking the question of how eventually, robots will replace humans in nearly every field of work and whether that is right or not.
