In today’s Digital Perspectives class, we listened to 3 podcasts (2 of which were made by our peers), and made to answer the question, “Do we worry too much about the effects technology has on our lives?”
Here is the link to the first podcast I listened to, called Digital Overload.
Here is the link to the second podcast I listened to, by Daniel and Anda.
Here is the link to the third podcast I listened to, by Megna and Srinandini.
Below is a picture of my notes this class.
To answer the aforementioned question, I don’t believe that we worry too much about the effects technology has on our lives. I believe that nowadays, an adequate amount of attention is placed on how technology affects our daily lives, and that if anything, we could place more attention on the subject matter, since more and more people nowadays, especially younger people, are getting addicted to technology and as we explored in the podcasts, this can lead to a deep and dark downward spiral. If we continue to scrutinize the effects technology has on our lives, we will reduce such cases and make sure the positive effects of technology override the negative ones.
The one thing I agree MOST with in your thinking is ‘people nowadays, especially younger people, are getting addicted to technology’ as it is a very real problem we are facing these days and this makes me believe that talking about the effects of technology can help bring light to the issue, educate people and alleviate the problem.
What I now would love to think more about is what we can do to solve the issue that is more concrete than just conversations or advocacy – what can we change?
The one thing I agree MOST with in your thinking is that by continuing to scrutinise the effects that technology has on us, we can limit the negative consequences it may have.
What I now would love to think more about is how we can place more attention on the negative aspects of technology, what can we do to reduce its negative impact?
The one thing I agree MOST with in your thinking is addiction to technology can lead down to a dark spiral, and it is hard to extract yourself from this conundrum.
What I now would love to think more about is how we can help other’s struggling with this addiction to more successfully rehabilitate.
