Today’s session was a collaboration with the K1s in the Kindergarten gardening areas. We planned to visit before the break ended to ensure their gardens were properly maintained to survive the three weeks. Thankfully, it seems that most of the plants we helped transplant in the previous session with the K1s are holding strong. Since today was met with rain (it’s been raining quite a lot recently), the small group of K1s had to huddle under the shade. We brought them some marigold and okra seeds to plant. The young ones ended up sitting around a table with us peering over to help gently guide them with the seeds.
The kids were lovely to work with, albeit slightly shy. However, it seemed that with just a little bit of guidance and discussion, the K1s came out of their shell. Soon enough, they were enthusiastically grabbing the seeds and planting them in the dirt. They managed to fill up all three trays provided to them within just one session! After the rain started to die down, we got some of the other K1s who didn’t get a chance with the seeds to help transplant a few plants.
Winter break means that we won’t be seeing our plants for three weeks. Hopefully, our plants and the K1 garden survive until we come back. We faced some issues last year with our plants failing due to long holidays so we have taken steps towards preventing this. More routine maintenance outside of service hours and more frequent visits to the infant school were our most influential changes.
Season 3 begins after the CNY break and it seems that group morale is still roaring. Have a great break everyone!
