After returning from winter break, our gardeners were itching to get back into the swing of things. Due to the rooftop garden being left unmaintained throughout the three-week break, our first order of business was to clean up the numerous rows of plants cluttering the ledge beside the plant pots. Most plant pots were overgrown with lemon balm, basil, or mint. Since there were so many plants we had to transplant, most of us were on transplant duty. We split off into three groups initially; one group transferred plants over to the table, one group started transplanting, and the last helped with soil. Finally, our two chairs helped plant some globe amaranth they had bought over the break.

Overall we managed to transplant:

53 lemon balm
22 mint
24 basil

and plant:

100 globe amaranth!

Today’s session was very productive and a great start to the new year! We’re currently preparing for our big project in the herb garden. As proposed by our chairs, we aim to create a wellness area in the herb garden with various sensory plants to help improve the mental well-being of students. We will also continue to collaborate with the K1’s, so plenty to look forward to!
