UWCSEA East joining the Next Generation of Sustainability

Members of our team have recently visited the Conscious Festival. As stated on their official website, “The Conscious Festival is held annually in multiple cities in Asia, empowering people with the knowledge and inspiration they need to take positive actions for their life and work.”

During this festival, Nikhil, Hemal, and Vidhi gave a quick and concise presentation to a wide range of international school students ranging from kindergarten all the way to senior year. They first introduced the issue from a Singaporean perspective, talking about the current situation in Singapore as well as how the government is getting involved. Vidhi then talked about the Climate Change and Clean Energy Service Group and explained our ongoing initiative which has been taking place – the carbon offset tax. Later on, Hemal went into detail about Solar for East (the UWCSEA East solar initiative group) including his story about why he wanted to be part of the solution to the issue and his achievements.

We believe the Conscious Festival is a fantastic way to network across international schools in Singapore. Other groups that attended include Solar for Dover, Solar for East, Rainforest Restoration project, Incredible Edibles, as well as many others. After the festival, we established connections with GIIS and offered to donate a tree to their cause. This is an example of the great connections that we have or could potentially have to reinforce our cause with a greater workforce.

Altogether, the Conscious Festival was a success for the Climate Change and Clean Energy group, and we hope to be given more and more opportunities like this to come in the future.
