I recently performed in the Kahaani Dance Showcase (at the end of January) in one of the dances! This was a culmination of all the work we had put into learning the dance and rehearsing over a three month period. The showcase itself was created to raise funds for an NGO called Voice of World, which works with children with disabilities in Kolkata, India.
Overall, the performance was immensely enjoyable and exciting to participate in! I was quite nervous at first, as I didn’t want to mess up on stage, and I was aware that we would only be filming the dance once. However, I still managed to really enjoy myself, as the dance and the choreography themselves were very fun to learn and engage with. While the performance was a bit nerve-wracking, the experience was amazing.
I think the experience of the dance showcase as a whole was very useful, because as a whole, I am not used to dancing or performing often. Hence, while learning the dance was challenging at first, it was a valuable experience as it forced me to put effort in and step out of my comfort zone to try something new. Even though I may not have been the most graceful dancer on stage, I think I was able to improve the quality of my performance by the end of the rehearsal process, and I gained the ability to better deal with performing in real time. This experience has been very valuable, and I looking forward to hopefully being able to do it again next year!
Really interesting to hear about how you know yourself so well and know what to expect of your own emotions. It shows a huge amount of maturity.
