Culturama 2019 Reflection

This year was the second time I participated in Culturama so I already had some experience with the preparation process and the skills that were required. Thus, I was able to realise that commitment to the experience would not be as an issue and that the main area I had to focus on was making sure I knew the dance well. I focused the most on this aspect and spent time outside of rehearsals practising to ensure I was ready for the next meeting. I also took a leadership role as while I was not a dance leader, I offered my help to them if needed. As I was in Grade 12 I also helped keep the younger kids organised when the dance leaders were busy with other Culturama related tasks. At the same time, a lot of the younger grades were actually more experienced with dancing, particularly the K-Pop style of dancing, so I made sure to ask for help from them when it was needed – working collaboratively to ensure the best show possible.

One challenge regarding Culturama was that it came at a very busy time of year when I had a lot of other events taking place. As such, I had to effectively manage my time to ensure I was dedicating enough time to the show which also not neglecting my schoolwork or other responsibilities. I think I managed this effectively as I did not miss very many rehearsals and if I did I made sure to inform my dance leaders ahead of time and make up for what I had missed in my own time. The quality of my schoolwork also did not fall as a result of Culturama.
