Global Concern: Planning a Fund-raising Enterprise

In The Island Foundation Global Concern, we have been advocating for the kids in Bintan Island with the goal of funding the costs of hiring a teacher there. In an effort to support an international community in need (LO#6), we spent meaningful time planning an enterprise project that would be able to reach our goal in the long term (LO#3). Through the long process, we had a lot of setbacks and problems, especially with miscommunication. Sometimes, some of us weren’t able to finish the tasks planned. However, we didn’t get discouraged; through the help of our leaders and constant collaboration (LO#5), I learned to persevere by coming to every single session and contribute in one way or another (LO#4).

In the end, we planned to have an enterprise project involving selling ice lemon tea popsicles. Our entire planning process was based on two things: fundraising to hire a teacher and having an ethical approach to the enterprise (LO#7). By using biodegradable popsicle sticks instead of the usual plastic cups for lemon tea, it reduces plastic waste that is constantly destroying the world. By promoting the reduction of plastic waste, we are taking a small step in the direction of a plastic-free world in the future (LO#6).
