We left for the actual service on the second day. It was in the middle of a forest. Initially, the place scared us a bit, as we thought that we would be sleeping in a room with proper fans/air con and proper electricity. However, we were taken to a shelter without any electricity or beds. Since it was very sunny and hot outside, we thought that it wouldn’t be possible to survive here for another 5 days. We had to sleep in small tents. As we were heading out to go to a cave visit, our car broke down halfway. My team members and I had to work with one another and communicate with the driver on how to fix his car. Initially, it was a challenge due to the language barrier (Malay), but we took upon the challenge and fixed the broken car. Furthermore, our time there enabled us to get a sound understanding of how our carbon footprint is impacting our daily lives and how we could reduce our impact. We achieved this by planting 32 trees on our trip there.
