  • How did I help others or how did others help me to stay committed to this activity?

After the first two seasons, I found it increasingly difficult to maintain the momentum and have people be and stay engaged. I noticed that attendance became infrequent. Also, as grade 11 and IB picked up with deadlines and tests, it was hard for me to stay committed, plan ahead and prioritise. But, there were a few things that I implemented that allowed me and other members to remain committed and participate in the service. One of the things was introducing ‘passion projects’, where the members formed smaller groups and chose a topic to look at through the lens of sustainability, some of them included:  fast fashion, sustainability investment and recycling. This gave control and agency to the students, and they were able to decide what they wanted to learn more about, and create a method to community and showcase this learning effectively. The projects, although most unfinished due to time constraints, helped to increase collaboration and improve morale. This in turn made others more committed to coming as they enjoyed the work that they were doing in the service. Seeing this made it easier for me to stay committed as I could see the impact and importance to people.
