For Ed, in order to find out which tune he wanted, so he had to go through different process to find out which one he preferred. He also asked his friends for help him decide which tune was right for his new song. in the end, out of the 3 choices he choose the original tune for his song.

To me, this shows that he had to look through different choices and trusted his instincts to follow the first tune he created. this is somewhat connected to the process of completing the school year.
