Ginger should be grown in a sheltered spot with filtered sunlight, warm weather, humidity, and rich, moist soil. However, it can’t stand direct sunlight, strong winds and soggy soil. You should start with getting ginger that is already grown, and plant it in warm, moist soil, which will make it easier and faster to root. Ginger only grows to about 2 to 3 feet in height, so it doesn’t take up much space. A 14 inch pot could easily hold three gingers, and a rectangular styrofoam box could hold about nine to a dozen. Ginger loves moisture, so you should water them often, but be careful not to overwater though, or the water will take nutrients with it. It’ll take about 8~10 months for the ginger to be fully grown. Once you harvest, you can enjoy the ginger in your own way. There are a few ways I recommend for enjoying the fresh ginger. You could make hot ginger tea, which is great if you have a sore throat. Cut up a few pieces of ginger, and pour boiling water over it in a cup. Add a bit of honey, a little lemon, and it’s done! You could also bake the ginger with fish, and enjoy the tender fish along with the strong, spicy flavour of ginger. Lastly, you could use it in a stir-fry. Almost every stir-fry could use a little grated ginger to spice things up!
