IFP and Coding For Good Reflection Post

What previous experience have I had with an activity like this?

IFP is a relatively new activity to me as I am more used to working within college or local services. The global context of IFP is part of the reason why I joined as I felt it would allow me to expand on my experiences and put me through something new. The most relevant experience that I have in this area would be my work with The Island Foundation back in middle school. It was a service dedicated to helping educate communities in Bintan on hygiene and nutrition. And it was in that GC where I learned the importance of approaching situations where you are meeting with someone of a totally different background with an open mind.

Coding for good on the other hand is a service that I have had a lot of experience with as I have been a part of it for 2 years now (this being my 3rd year). I love being a part of the service as it allows me to combine my passion for technology and making with the goal of helping people both within and outside of our community. Another similar activity that I have been a part of that contributes to my experience would be my time in Circle Enterprise. This was a college service that I was a part of during my iGCSE years and it focused on developing sustainable products that helped and addressed the various needs of our community; Which is very similar to what Coding For Good does, just in a more hardware/physical context.

What am I good at and where would I like to improve?

I feel like in the context of IFP, I have been a good collaborator in a sense where I am supporting and encouraging others as well as willing to compromise when necessary which I feel is a crucial skill to have when it comes to interactions in larger groups. However, something which I could do more of is perhaps take more initiative. Right now I am still getting used to understanding what all IFP is about, however, I do want to start taking more leadership opportunities especially in the context of group work.

In coding for good, my main skills include python as well as working with hardware (electronics). However, I open up myself to work on a wide range of projects in order to learn a wider variety of skills. Even if that means I am slow to catch on at first, eventually I will get the hang of it and will be able to complete the project. This means that there are always areas in which I can improve, and I hope to take as much opportunity to learn new things in these areas as I can.
