End of Plath Discussion – 25th September 2020

25th September 2020

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the poetry in Slyvia Plath’s poetry collection of Ariel. The poems were written in the months before her death, and show a perspective on her mental health struggles, her identity struggles and her struggles with motherhood. In class, we went through many of the individual poems, talking about their themes and their allusions, their techniques and the deeper meanings in them. We also created and presented a presentation about a poem of our choice in the collection. Elijah and I chose Plath’s poem Kindness.

Here are photographs of my annotations of the poems in the collection. My classmates and I had conversations about nearly every one of them and learnt a lot about Plath’s past and how that tide into her poems.
