Knit A Square General

The Knit A Square focus group has been going quite well so far. We had reached out to an organization in Singapore that also deals with raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and contacted them asking if they could come to talk to us one day. We had planned to have the guest speaker attend one of our sessions and brief us on the situation regarding the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS in Singapore as well as the work that they do to try and combat it and change people’s perspectives. Unfortunately, this could not happen as the school made some policy changes due to the Coronavirus. We are considering having a video call with the organization and learning more about them through that.

We are also planning another mini Knit-A-Thon, but due to the space restrictions, we are planning on having it in the evening at the boarding house. Rather than being called a Knit-A-Thon, we rebranded to Knit Night, and are trying to get permission and sort out logistics for this event. The idea behind this is quite similar to the Knit-A-Thon, we want to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in our school community and get squares knitted so we can send them to KasCare. The boarders usually have optional activities to do on Thursday nights and we are hoping that they will choose to come to our event. We are aware that it probably won’t be as successful as the Knit-A-Thon, but even if only 10 people come, we would still count that as a success.
