What I think I did well:

One positive aspect of my writing was that I was able to create a solid plan before beginning the writing process. Of course, time management during the test is extremely important and sometimes an area which I struggle with, that said I find it extremely helpful to have a concise plan beforehand, roughly outlining what I am going to write about. I was only able to do create this plan due to reviewing the poetic devices and techniques typically used. This allowed identify what devices are within the poem and therefore incorporate them into my plan to support my thesis.

What I think I could do better:

Leading on from what I think I did well, I think one of my primary areas to focus on developing is more microanalysis. Often I will successfully recognise the poetic devices in use but leave them out or not fully understand their actual purpose within the poem, leading to missed opportunities in my analysis and sometimes resulting in a lack of depth.

Moreover, I think another area for improvement is for me to broaden my use of words to avoid repetition and have more precise vocab, specifically evaluative adjectives. This would also help explain in greater depth and improve points within my evaluation. Finally, I should attempt to pay more attention to the authorial intent throughout the text. I frequently use phrases such as “the reader feels…” “this makes the reader feel… etc” but instead should use phrases such as “the author elicitsĀ  ….”
