I decided to do a comparative essay on two countries in Europe and their election results since the 2015 refugee crisis because it is a very relevant issue and many countries all around the world seem to become more right-wing. There were many countries that I could have chosen but ended up deciding on Sweden and Germany. Both states have had different reactions to the refugee crisis and this has recently affected their elections. I chose Germany because of its more liberal response to the issue and allowing many refugees to enter their borders. It will be interesting to see what happens in the upcoming in September 2019 elections as Angela Merkel must step down. This is in contrast to Sweden, who used to be very liberal but has now seen a surge to the right-wing, more realist politics. After doing some preliminary research, I found it very interesting to see how many swedes are justifying their move to a more realist view.
