My Environmental Value System

I am an anthropocentric. I understand – in this day and age saying this is almost ‘gibberish.’ With the rise of veganism and movements against climate change, valuing humans over the environment just isn’t acceptable. Yes, the Earth gave me a home and yes, this is where I get my food but that’s inevitable, no? I believe in anthropocentrism because when humans figure out issues such as poverty and lack of education, we will then be able to figure out issues such as the environment. As the economy booms, more people will be in the position to actually pay attention to issues that are beside themselves. Let’s be real, if your family was starving and all you could eat was meat, you would! I, personally, don’t have a connection to the environment to be determined enough to change my lifestyle for the greater good of the environment. I wish I did, but I just don’t. I won’t stop turning on my AC, I won’t stop traveling in a taxi and I most definitely won’t stop using paper. I agree, I am accountable for my actions but I just don’t have the obedience to correct all the actions that somehow affect the environment. It’s just as though someone saying ‘stop walking in the sun, you’ll get cancer.’ You simply can’t do that.

I am a self-proclaimed anthropocentric but will focus on the environment only when man kinds issues (hunger, lack of education, etc) are solved. Till then, you can watch me throw my batteries out (because apparently, that’s harming the environment now).
