Kahaani – 1

LO2 – Demonstrate that you have undertaken, developing new skills in the process
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

I am not a stage person, nor someone who likes to be in the centre of attention. Since young, I have been shying away from stages as well as any key roles in fear of making a mistake due to the perfectionist in me. Though over the years, this attribute of mine became milder as I push myself to step out of my comfort zone by doing little things like being the one to break the silence in a class by at least responding something or volunteering myself to go first and make mistakes.

This time, as a fresh start in IB, I’ve decided to sign up for Kahaani.

Kahaani is an event arranged by the Kolkata GC as an annual awareness and fund-raising event. Recently some of the children from the NGO, Voice of World (which the GC supports), managed to conquer a mountain climbing expedition that is 19000ft high. This is even more amazing as the children the NGO supports are blind. To commemorate their resilience and strength, the theme of this year’s Kahaani show is Victory.

Apparently, there are a whopping 250+ dancers that signed up, which is really amazing and at the same time no surprise because of the fact that there is no auditioning needed (which is also the same reason why I was encouraged to join).

So far, despite the tight schedule as well as the many events being held on a Friday (Cancer Awareness day, the final day of term 1 etc.), I think that our Friday group has been doing pretty well. Yes, there were a couple of times we went a little off track, however, I personally think that the speed in which our group is grasping the dance is really amazing.

My favourite part would definitely be the circle dance in which all of us dance in one gigantic circle in sync, which not only looks cool but in the process developed a bond between each of us as we struggle to grasp the concept of it initially)

Above is a video of one of our practice of the song Jai Ho.

I am looking forward to how the event will work out to be as well as the satisfaction of conquering my shyness once again.

Memory Project 2

LO1 – Identifying your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

Since the last post, I have completed 2 portraits. One for Zain, and another one for Yousaf.

In the first session of painting my very first portrait, I found my experience to be a mix of frustration and amusement. I expected myself to be able to capture Zain well in the first session, knowing my experience with acrylic, however, not only did I found it hard to blend, but also to capture the skin tone right. As I try to dab my colours onto the canvas, I found that I had to brush up (get it? brush) on my painting skills with acrylic as incidents such as diluting too much of the paint with water, mixing unevenly the colours etc.

So it was quite delightful to find that I still have lots of room for improvement in painting portraits, which replaced my goal of learning how to draw portraits. Though I guess it made sense because I put myself in the impression that if I was able to paint still lifes, then I should be paint portraits, even though they were two different things and I didn’t think the same way as for drawing.

Portrait of Zain after the first session

Though the frustrating part was when I still ended up with his skin on the brown shade rather than the orangey shade the reference photo had, despite pushing myself to paint over his entirety around 4 times throughout the whole process before I thought that I should cut short, wanting to meet Mr McGrath’s expectations of finishing 3 paintings by December.

Portrait of Zain after the 2nd session

Painting the shirt and the background was quite a learning as I have come to learn the existence of pretty useful paint tools that I have never seen. In my third session, I painted the shirt and a small part of the background. During this session, Mr McGrath noted that my colours were not only too similar but also too cold. So he introduced the existence of an acrylic gloss, which makes an acrylic become semi-translucent to add a coloured layer, basically watercolour. This helped save a lot of time as that meant that I didn’t need to repaint the entire shirt! (The good and bad of acrylic) Another tool that I learned of was a painter’s tape. The painter’s tape is basically like masking tape, and it’s used to block out sections so that there will be a clean paint line. Though similar to masking tape (which I have tried before and the results were not fabulous), the painter’s tape gives a medium level of adhesion, which will allow itself to be removed cleanly after the job is done up.

The completed portrait of Zain finished after 4 sessions

For the background, I was pretty satisfied with it when I finally finished the portrait. However, looking back, I wished that I had used a thin brush to possibly add some clothing texture to the background in order to relate it to the stitchwork Ralli, which means mixing and connected, in order to further build a better connections that crosses boundaries between him and I.

Finishing the first painting gave me a lot of confidence in my painting skills, seeing that I was ahead of others. However, with just 3 sessions left (2 for me since I had to miss a class due to piano exams, though I made it up by going afterschool), I was assigned an uncompleted drawing of Yousaf.

The uncompleted drawing I received of Yousaf

I immediately started working on the face. I had to paint this time with thicker coats of paints due to the dark pencil outline of the portrait. Though I tried to paint to match Yousaf’s skin tone, it ended up in a shade of brown again, Except it was worse this time, as it wasn’t similar to the photograph at all.

At that moment, I decided to step back and observe how my friend Shangyu paints her portrait. I realized that despite our extremely different painting styles, because she uses orange paint (name forgotten…) along with burnt sienna to create her realistic skin colour.

A skin tone that was much lighter and with an orange shade

After that breakthrough, I was more confident with the painting of the portrait as I move on to the painting of the shirt. Because I chose the shirt to be yellow in hopes that it will be in contrast with the blue background (Yousaf’s favourite colour), the paint is more translucent, which would mean I would need to paint multiple of layers in order to cover up the outline of the drawing below. In order to finish the portrait against the time, I decided to use more opaque colours when painting on the outline and blend it out further with the bright yellow.

For the background, I kept it blue, albeit with rough shades of blue as I used thick paint to mix them unevenly and colour it on to the canvas. I decided to have ocean motifs painted all over the background in hopes of making it more fun and bright.

Badminton 2

LO1 – Identifying your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in you CAS experiences

Season 2 has started, which meant that I have an additional of 2 badminton sessions in a week, Tuesday and Thursday. Although initially, we had them at 18:00 – 19:30. However, due to a large number of students (~35) coming to pre-season training, the coach decided to hold morning training sessions for potential members for A team badminton in order to not only reduce the pressure on the space there was but also to provide more rigorous training to make sure that we are up to shape by Season 3.

I think that somehow, maybe because there are fewer people, I got a lot close to my potential teammates. Together, we lament about how early it is in the morning as well as exchange some skills (like Alysha is very good at saving smashes) and motivations.

A picture of the Grade 11s in the morning training. (Fr left to right: Maxine, Sara, Me, Alysha)

Sadly, I didn’t manage to follow up with my plans from my first post because I was exhausted with not only my activities like piano exams but also the incoming waves of IB like IAs, project week etc. Nevertheless, I somehow manage to get back to shape again, which may be thanks to the fact that I really always try to push myself each session.

Though I still need to improve my stamina, as proved when I lost against a player due to being tired out from a match before hers. That’s why I will be trying to fit some exercises into my schedule this “winter” break, especially since training is basically halted during holidays.

There is a tournament in the weekend before school starts, hosted by the coaching company our school employs, Alpha Academy, as well as our rival and friend, UWCSEA Dover campus. This will definitely be an exciting opportunity to see where I am against others and have a gauge of how much I need to improve on before the main season.

Project Week 1

LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance
LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of your choices and actions

All of us were excited when Project Week was finally formally introduced to us. However, needless to say, as it was the week before the October break, we let it slipped our mind. Fast forward to the 4th week after the holiday, after 3 weeks with not a single word about Project Week, which we were all of the sudden, without any realization, plunged into the fast-paced schedule of Project Week planning.

I was initially planning on going diving with friends while working together with a GC called Gili Eco Trust. However, due to my lack of interest in diving, the fact that I have never dived as well as the high cost of learning how to dive, I decided to leave the group in search of something else.

I approached my friends Izzy and Riya, who plans to go to where Izzy’s GC is, Chumkriel Language School, to teach them circus as well as to bike around Cambodia. Since I have had past experiences with the GC, I decided that it would be a good idea for me to join their group.

However, after I had joined their group and we submitted our proposal, the plans to teach the students there circus tricks had to be reconsidered, when Vasu, the key role to this idea, was pulled to join a group who is going to Blue Dragon as a following up of a recent collaboration between the school’s circus club and the GC. In return, we had 2 other members, Colin and Eric, joined us due to their interest in cycling.

An E-mail informing us of the addition of two new members

The reshuffling of roles as well the size of the group of 7 meant that I have changed roles from being the minutes’ taker to sharing the role of a first aider and action leader with Colin. I really needed time to get used to not taking over the current minutes’ taker’s role as I am just so used to doing it whether it is because I am the secretary of 0WES or that I always end up in that role during group projects. It is hilarious though whenever Riya or Izzy caught me taking minutes instead of Eric.

I also felt that despite the short time period of working together, I have learned quite a lot on how to manage my thinking and attitude. I tend to be the type of person who is a perfectionist, someone that likes to get things done early in order to provide a foundation to further build on if there is time to spare. So imagine my anxiety when I see that some of my peers weren’t using the time allocated for project week appropriately. I have a strong fear of being last minute. Along with the awareness of the tight schedule we had, I was extremely anxious. However, after talking to my mentor as well as friends I managed to understand and learn a lot about myself as well as how to interact.

I have learned that when working, although I may not personally like them, I have to at least set aside our differences in working and work with professionalism. Similarly, different people have different methods which suit them. If there are differences, then we should at least trust them that they will complete the task because after all, we all have a common goal that we want to work towards.

In addition, I really feel very fortunate to have Ms Yacou as our supervisor. Not only was she very objective, but she also got us on track again, as we lay out what we have done and what we still needed to do.

Asking Ms Yacou to be our project week supervisor

Although this has been a little too bumpy of a start to my liking, I think that this is a very good experience and I am looking forward to how we move onwards.

Once again, I signed up for another year of 0WES, but this time, I have a goal – to be the chairman of the service.

Since Grade 9, I have been in the service (though initially unwilling as I was assigned there due to no allocations), but I just really love the fact that I can make a change first hand in events by providing washable crockeries. The interaction with the community was incredibly satisfying as well, as we work together with Buddha Tzu Chi in events like Sunday recycling and Pasir Ris day.

What I wrote when I was applying for 0WES leadership position

The application process for the leadership positions included having to give a speech (which was notified last minute…) as well as have an interview.

For the speech part, to tell the truth, I was pretty anxious as well as in awed when I listened to the other candidates as they were incredibly good speakers. Their confidence and passion towards the service really shown through their voice, and they had talked about many other things as well such as their experiences outside the service, their abilities to lead the service etc.

Personally, I felt that I wouldn’t get the position as they were all going for it, applying for both chair and vice-chair of the service. That kind of made me sad as I can see my weak points, however, I was happy at the same time to see so many people applying and wanting to make a change in the service, as well as that it was good for the service if there is someone capable than me to lead the service despite my feeling of hope.

For the interview, when asked about what my plan is for the service, I replied that I would like to continue refining and improving our efficiency in the service as well as develop the portfolio. But when asked again, repeatedly, I started to understand that I am most likely not going to be the chairman. I think that it is because other than supporting zero waste events, the service does not really address anything else, thus they are expecting the future chair to have some ideas of initiatives that the service can take on. I realised that what I currently am is not what they are looking for in a leader, which I felt make sense after attending a leadership workshop. A leader is meant to inspire and engage people, what I am particularly focused on is the management aspect of leadership, not the actual leading part. (Though I feel that a leader doesn’t necessarily need to have ideas of his/her own.)

So overall, although I did sign up with the hope of becoming the chair of this service, I am not confident that I will get the position, which I understand since there are many great candidates applying for it too. Regardless of the results, I will continue to do my best in 0WES and support the team.

Edit on 11 Oct 2019:

The results are out!

I’m not surprised that I ended up being the secretary of the service once again, as I have mentioned before, I don’t think that I currently have the right skill sets to lead as I tend to focus on the management side of leadership.  In fact, I am really happy that Siya got chairman not only because I trust her due to our friendship from badminton, but also because I know that she is an incredibly hardworking and inspiring girl who will definitely strive for the better of the service. I am very glad that I will be working together with her in the service

However, what came as a surprise was that in Season 3, due to Siya needing to be away on study leave due to Grade 10 IGCSE, I will need to be the acting chair of the service during that time period. This is because Albert, the vice chair, have shown no interest in being chair and I have been in the service for a long time, thus would be suitable to be the acting chair. I am incredibly grateful that the teachers have given me a chance to not only learn from Siya during the first 2 seasons, but also to show and improve my leadership skills in season 3 and 4.

I am looking forward to working with Siya and Albert, as well as the rest of the leadership team (that has not been decided as of now) to continue the good work of the service and further better it.

Badminton – 1

LO1 – Identifying your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in you CAS experiences

Recording for reflection

Notes for convenience

Season 1 – signed up for Sunday competitive training with East Badminton Club

Background with badminton
– Started in Grade 6, start formally training in Grade 7
– In SEASAC A team as singles last year

Took a break from badminton for 1 month
– Drastically impacted performance
– Season 1 only started 4 weeks into school, which means 4 weeks of no training since I train with the school club
– Yet to adjust to balancing IB life and others, thus lack exercising

After training
– Tired and demotivated
– A 5 minutes video of my 11 point match with Coach Alvin
– Typical game length 10 minutes,
– Laughing at ambitious goals from end of IGCSE (and actually start of IB?!)

So what is my plan?
– Gradually increasing training days
– Fitness
– Planks (normal and side-on) – currently 45 seconds, increase 5 seconds every week
– Calf lift 50 times each leg, every other day
– Tricep dips 30 times, to increase elevation

My plan on training days for badminton

Swimming with Hougang Care Center

LO3 – Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

INVESTIGATION

The first session of Swimming with Hougang Care Center was a get to know session as well as a little introduction to what the service is about. My understanding of the service is that we are empowering people with mental health issues by leading activities in the pool (infant pool) to build mental resilience to cope with stress, improve their self-confidence, motor skills, fitness and overall well being. We also covered and read some of the SWOT analysis from last year, with one of the major weaknesses being punctuation. Last year, the team struggled to pick our partners on time as they arrive at 3 pm sharp, which is when school ends. This makes it hard for many to be there as some had to rush down from the 6th floor. Other than that, the session was mainly on building and fortifying the relationship between everybody in the service.

The second session was more about investigating, where we brainstormed how we could find out more information about our Service partner and the issue in which they are tackling with MISO (Media, Interview, Survey, Observation) as well as brainstorm some questions to ask the Hougang Care Centre’s Director and staff.

These are some of the questions we would ask to find out more about our partners:

  • Is there anything that we should avoid in terms of activities or actions?
  • If the members don’t want to participate – should we let them be?  Or encourage them to participate?
  • What are their habits?   What’s their daily routine?
  • How do they react to activities and certain situations?
  • How can we determine or know the nature of their disability?  How to know what activities suit them?
  • Are there going to be people who have specific needs?  Or things we should know.
  • English ability?   Or What languages can we expect to hear?
  • What activities do they enjoy the most?
  • How do they introduce new activities to the members?  Direct instruction? Demonstration?
  • What activities do they already have at the centre?
  • How do we react to unfamiliar behaviour?

We also decided on our leadership team, which was pretty straightforward. I didn’t go for a leadership role in this service because I worry that it may become too much for me to handle as I am aiming for a leadership position in the college service I am in, 0WES. In the local service, we have Owen and Lucy co-chairing, Anna on logistics, and Shweta on communications. Arkie and Poppy will be co-chairing in the second semester of the service.

In the third session, our Service Partner came to our school to give us a brief introduction as well as an explanation of regarding their actions towards the issue of mental health issues. They also gave us time to ask them questions that we have.

Courtesy to Owen, our service’s co-chair, for taking notes

  1. Many of them have a job, some may be too tired to participate in sessions
  2. The end goal is that they stay with the centre for two years and then can move on
  3. Try to encourage the members to join in the activities
  4. Don’t be patronising, they are members, not patients
    1. If they want to be back in society they need to feel included
  5. Most are English speakers – don’t always need to speak Chinese
  6. About 10 people per session
  7. schizophrenia, bipolar, autism, PTSD
  8. Make sure that the activities aren’t repeated from the actual centre
  9. They follow an American system, so they are freer
  10. They have choices to do activities
  11. We should go talk to the staff if we feel uncomfortable in any way
  12. If they choose to change outside, be firm with our policy
  13. Don’t take pictures of their faces, if need to, blur the faces out

This is a recording of the session, which I decided to take around 10 minutes into the introduction:

What struck me was the realization that they were normal, that I somehow, despite supposedly having exposure to them, still have the image of them as a stereotype. This realization made me disappointed with myself but also pushes me to change the image of them in my head by having direct interactions with them.

Something that I found amazed and important was that the end goal for them was to allow them to gain confidence so that they can assimilate back into society after 1/2 years. I find that amazing due to the image I have of the service partners as a care centre, which again, I will need to change how I look at them.

PREPARATION

After the interview session with our Service Partner, we begin to prepare and plan for the activities we would be running with our partners/members (the Center insists on us to call them members so that we are all equal). As there is an even number of people in the service, we decided to go in pairs to run each session. I was partnered with Hamza. Whilst everybody has decided on what activities we are to run, Hamza and I has yet to decide. This is because we wanted to decide what to do after experimenting with different types of activities and receiving feedback for them.

Here are some pictures of us brainstorming some activities we could do in preparation for the sessions.

I am looking forward to meeting with our partners after the October break and getting to know them. I hope that it will go as smoothly as possible.

Memory Project – 1

LO1 – Identifying your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
LO6 – Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance

The first session on September 9th started with a little introduction from Mr McGrath and Mrs Dinsdale on what the Memory Project is. Actually, it started with me getting lost when trying to find the classroom but let’s just ignore that.

The Memory Project is an activity that creates a connection between high school students and children in Pakistan through the giving of art. It’s not one where we go “OH, look at how we are drawing some portraits for these POOR ORPHANED CHILDREN!”. No, just no. They still go on living their lives, smiling, laughing, doing all sorts of things children do! This is about giving them something that they can call theirs when they don’t, it is about forging friendships and gaining intercultural awareness through the universal language of art. It is about creating a kinder world through art – and that is why I joined.

When I join the activity, I have to admit that I thought that we were just going to start on the drawing aspect of it right away (probably because I was very eager to stretch my fingers and draw). But we started with brainstorming and creating an imageboard on Pakistan’s culture for potential background designs.

So here’s mine. I chose a lot of scenery pictures as well as patterns that I could potentially use as background.

Also, when Mr McGrath stated his expectations that each of us will be able to draw 3 high-quality portraits by December. From my personal experience of drawing portrait, it takes very long. The drawing aspect of getting the proportions right is incredibly hard – one small shift of the eye can change the whole picture. I was also very nervous when I realized that everybody was a former fine art/graphic art student in IGCSE because I felt unconfident that I can create high-quality portraits. (I took Design Technology: Resistant Materials for IGCSE, though I used to take fine arts outside of school) But I reminded myself that I have joined this activity in order to make a change through something I love, that as long as I try my best, that is what that matters. The fact that I am surrounded by super experienced peer is a good thing as well, though I will need to step out of my comfort zone to ask for help from them (in fear that they would make fun of me… I don’t know how but that is just my fear).

In the second session, we were each given a photograph of one of the children we will be drawing a portrait for. It really touched me, how besides their name and age, they gave us their favourite colour. It’s something really simple thing, but that is why it touches me. It is something that you see in every children introduction worksheet. It’s as if it is hope, it is childhood.

So I am partnering Zain. He’s 8 years and likes green.

This is my image board slides for Zain

This is my annotated brainstorm and thinking process:

On the third session, I was incredibly surprised to find out that we would be tracing the portraits instead of drawing freehand. The reasoning behind it was that the Memory Project team emphasized artists to capture their characteristics and make the drawings as realistic as possible, also that it allows us with more time to paint rather than drawing. Though understandable, I find that it contradicts one of my main goals for joining this activity, which is to learn how to draw portraits.

Tracing on Zain’s photograph as well as the colour value.

However, for now, I will challenge myself with painting a person realistically – something that I have never done before.

CAS profile

In August, we started discussing CAS and thinking about what we want to do.

Since the beginning, I had an idea of what I wanted to do as all the activities that I have been doing for the past few years can be completed as CAS. While that said, I also want to push myself out of my comfort zone as a way of cherishing my last two years in high school and making the full use of it.

Below are the screenshots of Stage 1 of CAS, where we investigate and think about what we want to do.

Creative – Memory Project

Why do I want to join:

The moment I heard about this activity in the assembly, it really touched my heart. The thought of being able to draw for a good cause really made me want to join the activity, especially since drawing is one of my hobbies. I haven’t drawn many portraits (the only one that I can think of being drawn 3 years ago when I was in Grade 8) so it will definitely be a great opportunity to brush up my skills for drawing. L01, L02, L06

Any goals:

To improve my drawing of the nose and ears

How will I achieve it:

Fully participate and make full use of the time during sessions!

Creative – Piano

Why do I want to join:

I find piano hard, even after playing piano since young. There is just always some inconsistency in my playing which changes the whole song, like a note played too harsh or an accidental clash note made. And it can really be demotivating when that happens. However, I still want to improve and learn new songs that aligns with my hobbies even after having my Grade 8 classical piano exam during November. L01, L04

Any goals:

To pass my Grade 8 practical piano exam… I tend to mess up a lot when I play in front of others.

Also, I want to clean my pedalling, it’s too murky…

How will I achieve it:

Practice every day! Even if it is just a run-through of the songs…

Service – 0WES:

Why do I want to join:

Well, I have been in the service for 2 years now, since Grade 9, and I really want to continue it. After all, it’s not really me if I don’t fully commit to something. I think that change should happen within the campus first before we can really expand out of it (like the hawker). If I can make a change by help decreasing the wastage produced during events, that will be sastifying enough. L03, L04, L05, L07

Any goals:

I’m aiming to be the chairman of the service because I want to push myself out of my comfort zone to improve my interpersonal skills. I also want to tackle something I noticed during the end of Grade 10, which is that the portfolio hasn’t really been updated and is not “professional” enough.

  • During my summer internship at Dentsu, I managed to read about the creative materials regarding posters, hero stories (90-sec vid with narration) and micro-stories (no narration and fast cut style). I believe that we should focus on promoting 0WES to not only those who use the crockeries but also to students to persuade them to join
    • I hope that it would look professional and clear. Perhaps there could be a team on this, where every 2 sessions they could update us on the progress
    • A document with notes I took about branding and some guidelines
  •  I have also noticed that the 0WES portfolio doesn’t have a lot of reflection content and has not updated since December, thus neglecting some of 0WES biggest events like the Pasir Ris Fair and the Family Festival. What I would like to do for next year is to have discussions on we can consistently keep the portfolio updated as well as implement a dedicated team

How will I achieve it:

I would like to focus more on the image and portfolio of 0WES. So to do that, I would like to organise 3 team of students, one to create the video, one to update the portfolio consistently as well as make it user-friendly and the other to manage the crockery count after each event. (All hypothetically, if I became the chairman)

Service – Swimming with Hougang Care Center

Why do I want to join:

A couple of reasons why I decided to join this local service. First one would be that I want to push myself once again outside my comfort zone after “stabilising” myself with the activities I have been doing over the past years (badminton, piano, 0WES). The second reason is that I think that this is really a good opportunity to develop an understanding of this part of the community and once again open up my vision of the world. The third reason is that I want to expand my career options as much as possible and after a small talk with one of the service teachers (Nisha) on some universities’ requirement, I decided to take local service as some of them required them. The fourth is that I want to continue improving my teaching skills, especially since I was participating in Chinese Chat during Grade 9 and 10.

Any goals:

To be honest, I’m not much of a swimmer, and it’s kind of my first time interacting with people who have mental health issues, so my goal for this year is to be tenacious and interact positively with them.

How will I achieve it:

Remember that you are part of a movement and part of a change. Stepping out of the comfort zone is the first step to do so.

Activity – Badminton:

Why do I want to join:

They say badminton is an individual sport. In a sense, it is, however because you are on the court alone, facing all this pressure knowing that every move counts, that we need a team. You need grit to push yourself to continue to try even when you are tired and when you are behind the opponent.  L01, L04, L05

Any goals:

To become the second singles of the team and have the team stay in SEASAC division 1

To improve my lobs so that I can lob from backhand to backhand.

To maintain the same culture as last year, which is a team that supports each other by cheering for each other during matches and gets along well

How will I achieve it:

To run every day if possible!

  • 5km at speed of 10+km/hr in the gym or…
  • 15 rounds of running at a constant pace around the pool (~6.5km)
  • Participate in the weekly family running activity (within my household) at Bedok Reservoir every Saturday morning (~4.3km)
  • After a run, at least do 3 sets of: 40 tricep weight lifting, 25 rowing, 20 sets of lifting above shoulder

I don’t really know how to maintain the culture but I will make sure to interact with each member of the team positively and cheer on every single match.

I have also created a spreadsheet to help me keep track of CAS

Wrap Up for IGCSE and Plans for IB

These past two years of IGCSE has been the best 2 years of my life so far, with many learnings, friends and memories made.

As we look ahead to our upcoming two years in IB, it would be great to have some sort of ideas as well as goals to guide our way through the rigorous course. (rigorous because that’s the collective thoughts I have heard from my seniors)

Academic Goals:

  • Like any student, to do well and score as high as possible in my academics! Though I have not really decided what I want to study…
  • I really hope that I will be able to get along with my new classmates as I almost share none of my classes with my friends! I see a few people that I have the chance to get along (more like stick/cling to them! (n >.< n))

Service Goals – (0WES):

  • I am aiming to be the chairman of the service because I want to really start focusing on 0WES image.

Activity Goals – (Badminton):

  • To improve my lobs so that I can lob from backhand to backhand by training my arms
  • I also plan to run every day (see Fitness goals) to build-up stamina and speed.
  • To play first singles! That means I have to work much harder than Vamakshi and potential single players!
  • To maintain the same culture as last year, which is a team that supports each other by cheering for each other during matches and gets along well

Activity Goals – (Fitness):

  • To run every day if possible!

Activity Goals – (Drawing/Craft):

  • To have a mini art project completed every 2 months
    • Hopefully, create something useful as maybe a birthday gift

Activity Goals – (Piano):

  • To score/pass my piano exam in November!
  • Also to start learning some Disney songs like “Colours of the Wind” and some anime songs like perhaps “This Game” in No Game No Life 🙂
