Service Exec – season 1

This year I’m apart of the service executive committee in school that works towards organizing and supporting the 50 plus services in our school, and also planning and executing new ideas and goals with which we can make the service program in UWC more efficient, and make our school more sustainable. Apart from that, we are also responsible for organizing and running a few of the school’s largest community events like the Family Fair, Holiday Fair, Service Expo, UWC day, etc.

My role in the exec committee is the Portfolio head to is responsible for liaising and supporting the Global Concern groups (GCs) in our school that work with a variety of NGOs, like Green Umbrella, Daraja, Surfaid, etc. The reason I chose this position is that I’m very interested in and passionate about matters and causes that can help people not just in my immediate community, but in the global community as well. I think is interest has always been in me, but has been further fueled by the course I took in IGCSE, ‘Global Perspectives’. While I do participate in a GC of my own, I want to be involved in a variety of causes and help people around the world in any way I can.
As of now, I’m working to develop a service blog where all the GCs post regularly about what events they are conducting, how they are raising awareness, etc, and am organizing the timeline to do so.

We recently organized UWC day, and I wrote a post about it, which can be viewed here. Planning and setting up UWC day made me realise how important it is to work together and rely on each other to get the work done, especially when organising such a large event.
