JESUS HOPPED THE ‘A’ TRAIN

The initial impressions of this play are abrupt and passionate. There is an element of aggressiveness with hysterical humor as a way of lighting up an intense moment. Each character has a distinct trait to them and quality that allows them to stand out and contrast to each other. All of the characters are very blunt and abrupt to the audience, this is seen through the choice of language and dialogue used in the play, more specifically swear words. By ‘insulting’ eachochother the prisoners seem as if they are only hiding away from their insecurities and vulnerability, luscious is the only character that does not swear, he is more of a deep and insightful character that has accepted his fate, the contrast in vibe between him and the other prisoners, allows for the play to be slowed down at times and looked at from a different (less distressed) perspective. The swear words in the play are not used lightly and therefore have a dramatic impact on the audience, making it more noticeable when there is a lack of swear words, this enhances character perception.
