Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter write up

Aunt Julia and the scriptwriter portrays the contrasting roles of reality and the imagination, as well as the conflict caused when comparing the two. Each chapter of the book enforces a new mindset and an open imagination, due to the stories being so different each time. The idea of exposing reality through the various mini-stories allows for the readers to develop a connection to Pedro Camacho’s writing later on. Each Mini-story is based on the reality of crime that is occurring in the real world, this portrays the conflict that reality can oppose and dictate your imagination. “When Mario discovers Pedro Camacho dressing up like characters in order to write Pedro Camacho says.. (Pg 135)”, the implementation of realism and reality into Pedro Camacho’s work creates an idea of expectations and limitations of imagination, in a world like today’s world where common conflict such as the judge trial for rape, the unknown black man that broke into the barn and may more short stories. They each identify the less pleasant things that ultimately shit down the vivid imagination that tends to wonder.

Not only can we see the idea of imagination v.s. reality through the contrasting stories we can also see this in the character development of Marito. He is a young vulnerable man that is just starting off in the real world with Panama radio and his aspirations to be a writer. However Internally, he does not view himself as vulnerable, rather powerful and confident. He is found to be ‘powerful’ when around Aunt Julia, ultimately initiating their kiss and thinking that as the man he has to provide comfort to her,as holding her hand on the way home in the cab. The contrasting idea of how he views himself in comparison to reality explores this theme of contrasting wolds shared through perspectives of an individual
