CAS Reflection 12: Culturama

LO1-Identify their own strengths and develop areas for growth

LO4-Show commitment and perseverance in CAS experiences

Culturama was a great experience for me, one that really allowed me to gain and improve new skills. I had participated in dance-based activities the year before, such as Kahaani, but never one with an audition process. My Culturama dance was a wonderful opportunity for me to expand upon skills I had learnt in previous years, and become a stronger dancer. Some aspects of the final performance were really hard, our dance was several minutes long and quite high intensity. By the end of each night of rehearsal and performance I was exhausted and tired. But at the same time, I felt super grateful to participate in an event so integral to the UWCSEA experience, and to do this using skills I had been working on for over a year.

CAS Reflection 11: Culturama

LO2- CHALLENGE (Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the
process)

LO5- COLLABORATION (Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively)

When choosing my activities for grade 12, I knew that I definitely wanted to take part in Culturama, as I have been at UWCSEA for 5 years and have never taken part before. I wanted to be a part of it particularly because of the community aspect of Culturama, I have always felt that it exemplifies many of the things UWC stands for. I also wanted the opportunity to get to know people from different grades, and to participate in a performance (as I am not doing theatre this year). I am in the Germany dance, which I have greatly enjoyed, as prior to this experience I had very little idea what German dancing is like. I have really enjoyed getting to know other members of my group, and working collaboratively with them has been a pleasure.

Another reason I have enjoyed Culturama so much is that I feel it’s allowed me to build on the skills I developed last year. Dancing was a part of both Aida and Kahani, however, I did not have to do a dance audition for either. Culturama allowed me to put the skills I learned last year to the test, and to develop further skills in the area of dance. I’ve really enjoyed polishing my dancing abilities, and when I reflect on my dancing skills at the beginning of Aida, it’s clear to me that I’ve come a long way.
