Firstly, it was very hard to choose sides on what is better, economic growth or environmental sustainability. Both aspects have pro’s and cons. For economic growth it would be much more of a technocentric perspective as it cares much more about technological advancements and using that technology to grow the economy but when the economy is growing, it is also damaging the environment as it is using non-environmentally friendly resource collecting techniques, non-environmentally friendly manufacturing procedures which can damage the environment which leads to global warming. On the other hand, economical sustainability is super important as it could potentially determine the future of mankind, being environmentally sustainable means cutting out many things that we can consider to be our “every day life”. To make sure that we are becoming more and more environmentally sustainable, it would mean that we would have to take on a more ecocentric perspective. Many stakeholders may have different perspectives, big wood producers would think that economical growth is much more important because they are providing houses for people but on the other hand destroying many natural habitats. However organisations such as PETA view environmental sustainability to be much more important as they are realising that the natural habitats are being destroyed and is causing harm towards our planet.
In my opinion I feel that environmental sustainability is more important than economical growth but it is much harder to achieve. This is because we as humans can survive without electricity, without cars, without phones but we have become reliant on them now as we have been for the past centuries, to take a step back from that would be difficult but not impossible.
