CAS: Final Reflection for PCF 858

LO3 & 6: Planning and Global Value

Over the past year, we have been presenting, planning and learning storytelling skills. I have learnt so much about myself and interacting with others. In the planning stages, I learned about leadership and communication. I helped guide my group through the planning process: this included planning activities and going through the book. Not only did I demonstrate leadership in the planning process but I also applied this during the sessions with the kids. I help lead them through the book and activities which we lead. This allowed me to become more self-aware. I think leadership is a very important skill which I can apply in the future.

Throughout the entire process, communication was key, regarding my teammates, the school and our head of service. It was very important that we kept everyone in the loop of our plans for the session, this helped avoid any miscommunication. We communicated through emails and our master document where we kept all of our session plans. This helped everyone understand what was coming up. Along with communication, problem-solving was another very important skill. Sometimes during our sessions, we found out that we were too short of time and on the spot, we had to move the plan around and make adjustments.

I found that the service was very helpful towards my own self-esteem. It was so enlightening to be able to be a role model to these younger kids and have an impact on their linguistic skills and life.
