Journalists are meant to be objective – what pressures are on journalists which makes this difficult to achieve?
- Pressure from governments and other people in power
- They can be threatened or forced to do something
- Money – you can buy news/make media share certain things, and they might be forced to because of finance of threats
- Pressure from demand/what sells
- Your passion might be to share the objective news, but you can not report without money/share it if you do not have a media
- Sensationalising news affects the objectivity by making the news seem as if it something that it is not
- Often different newspapers/organisations have a certain viewpoint they publish news through – In Denmark we have a well-known liberal, a conservative and a socialist newspaper all publishing some of the same stories, just trough different lenses.
- Pressure to be the first
- Affects the correctness/truthfulness and amount of information a story can contain. If journalists focus on being the first media to carry a story, they might overlook game-changing details
