Driving With Selvi: Global Significance

My GC, Because I Am, recently put on a screening of Driving With Selvi, a documentary about Selvi, a former child bride who later went on to become South India’s first taxi driver. Along with the screening, a Q and A session was held with the director of the film, Elisa Paloschi, and Selvi herself.

The event was set out to spread awareness about female inequality in India and how we as a global community can work to further empower women around the world. This issue is of global significance as it impacts societies in all parts of the world,  be it rural India or metropolitan Singapore.

As a GC, we had to collaborate and communicate with each other to ensure that the event would go smoothly. As a part of the Communications Team, I learned a lot about publicity and advertising. I learned how to market towards the student demographic in our school.

The actual event went very well with a lot of audience participation. The issue of female inequality is one that is very relevant even in a society like Singapore. This event helped a lot of women fully understand how female inequality impacts us here in Singapore and how we can use our platform to further spread the message of equality through events like these.

I think you did a great reflection on reflecting your experience with your GC. You were really specific and detailed on reflecting the event which is good, however i think you should have included a learning objective in the paragraph so we know which objective you are relating with for this post. You also talked about the audience’s reaction which is very good because you approached your thoughts through different perspectives.
