[LO1] Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Since last year I really started to develop a passion for volleyball and started playing further than just for leisure and fun. I think since then a lot more areas of growth have come up and just in the first few sessions it was easy to identify some of them. One area for improvement is discipline and being principled because I often start to forget that even training is serious and it will help us and as a result, I start messing around. Just through personal reflections, I have noted this and I now am able to be more focused and put in more effort into each drill in order to make more effective use of our time.

However, one strength I identified is communication. Unlike almost every other aspect of my academic and personal life, I have been able to be loud and communicate on the court and even be a leader at times. For instance, we had to do a drill that simulated an in-game situation and I was able to be very vocal and direct my team. As a result of this, the rest of my team started communicating more and this allowed us to work together much better than other teams.

[LO2] Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

One challenge has been being more focused and putting a lot of effort into everything including maintaining communication, performance and even other smaller things such as cheering for others and following instructions. In the past year, I learn the importance of this and that it plays a big role in team morale and it helps us a lot more than I initially thought. For example, we won more games towards the end of the season as we began to become closer as a team and started cheering and being very loud during games. The overall energy was much better and allowed each of us to feel more comfortable which improved our performance. One skill this helped me develop is collaboration because essentially I learnt that my actions off the court and on the bench or at training can impact others and vice versa.
