My UWCSEA Learning Journey

My Portfolio

HS Art Studio, Pottery (LO3)

Through this experience, I have been able to create and execute my own plan over the span of a few weeks. I essentially planned what I wanted to create and then spent the following lessons going through and trying to stick to my plan. I think that the planning allowed me to work efficiently and productively because I was not swayed by new ideas that would have otherwise arisen during my creative process. I can confirm this because I compared it to the time I took to complete the piece before this. However, I realised that it was difficult to always stick to the schedule because of extraneous factors. For example, the texture/dryness of my clay impacted my progress and hence I was not able to stick to my fixed plan and had to adapt it as I moved forward. I think similarly to pottery, I see this in a lot of other aspects of my life. I think that a plan provides structure to ideas and creativity but it often needs to be flexible because we cannot account for everything in advance. I think this is definitely an important skill that I have developed and I have been able to develop it in a more creative setting. This experience allowed me to explore the skill of adapting ideas and a plan in a different setting and overall, it deepened my ability to think on the spot and essentially replan activities/tasks.
