Pre – Season Softball: Something New

Reflecting upon my first ‘pre-season softball’ session, there are things that have come to my attention regarding the reasons why I chose to take part in this specific sport. To start off, making the choice to participate in pre-season softball was definitely a big step out of my comfort zone and very much my initiative to developing new skills. Though it’s only been early stages of the activity, I definitely had my initial worries about whether or not there was a specific standard to meet, how much experience would I had to have to come into it and as a person who’s more involved in the arts; musically, par-taking in sports isn’t my strongest suit. Following these thoughts, it came to my surprise how much I ended up enjoying the session even though it was more of the basic skill being taught. During the session, when being taught the right techniques I had found myself easily discouraged when I wasn’t able to do as instructed and it had led my motivation to drop gradually. However, with my partner who encouraged me to keep trying and my initiative to ask questions on ways to improve, by the end of the session, my confidence was stronger and left the activity learning new techniques that I hope to work on (at my own pace) and apply for future sessions. Personally, I think that it’s very important that I am able to “master” these basic techniques as I genuinely see myself enjoying this sport throughout pre-season and maybe even further and thus I would like to continue to work on the taught content in order to build my confidence as well as succeeding in the sport down the line. Another idea that I would like to highlight would be taking into account my strengths and weaknesses; mainly, I would like to focus on playing with the right technique, where it comes from throwing a certain way/catching the ball in a specific manner. Whereas, I would see my strength to be receiving the ball in the right way from my partner. Though it seems like a small strength, I would like to think of it as an achievement as I started the session rusty and not being able to do it the right way/ safe way. Overall, I definitely enjoyed the first session and I am determined to push myself into being committed as well as grow a passion for the sport.
