Drum Therapy #3

LO1, LO7

Even though this local service is called ‘Drum Therapy’, (other than colouring) we have implemented other activities to accompany the drumming. We had a few sessions where we tried dancing with our clients, and it proved successful. The people were really engaged and enthusiastic, jumping around, listening to the music. We were relieved because as seen from the drumming over the weeks, their enthusiastic level had dropped. I guess it could be because we are doing the exact same thing over and over again every week.

We also tried a balloon game, where they had to keep the balloon up in the air without touching the ground with their body parts. Unfortunately, this proved less effective than we initially thought. The main problem was; it created a risk of danger. The balloon might pop and that could extremely affect the behaviour of the people and their well-being. Due to their unusual behaviour, the popping of the balloon could create a burst of chaos. Furthermore, everyone followed the balloon around, trying to hit it all at the same time, again proving a risk of endangerment and accidents.

Otherwise, the service has been going smoothly. We all are enjoying ourselves, engaging with the people.
